Jonesboro is a quiet community of 1,887 residents. It exists on a wide brick main street and is proud to be one of the oldest communities in the country.

Formerly known as Jonesborough, the town was laid out by Obadiah Jones. Obadiah's original cabin was discovered, under new siding, when a house on Main Street was being torn down. The cabin was saved, is situated on 6th Street next to Jonesboro Park and is being restored by the Jonesboro Historical Society. Town Hall is on Main Street and houses the police department consisting of 4 full-time officers and 16 reserves. The fire department was established and the station was built in 1989.  It is one of the oldest volunteer fire departments in Indiana and is manned by 20 volunteer firefighters.

The town of Jonesboro has an excellent water supply and is currently upgrading their water and sewage utilities.
