- To Anita M. Rice, VA Northern Indiana Health Care System, for updating the Chamber Office. Have you visited www.gascity.com and checked out each page, your information may be listed in several areas. If you see information that needs to be corrected, send us an e-mail or give us a call. You are crucial in keeping our site current.
- To Glen Hinz, Comteck . Comteck called to alert the Chamber of a new virus that was making its way around the usual virus scanners and infecting machines. We went immediately to www.comteck.com and took advantage of the free online spyware scanner and the online virus scanner which cleaned our machine. Another program (FREE) that Comteck offers is Mail Guardian. Mail Guardian filters your e-mail and all filtered email is saved to view when time allows. This feature has been very helpful in setting aside hundreds of spam e-mails so that we can get to the work we need to do. THANKS Comteck – keep up the good work.
- To Basic Systems USA and Leap Frog Technology as DECA Sponsors.

Randall Miller of Randall Miller Associates was one of the primary speakers and kept the members asking questions about what a land surveyor does, etc. Randall has been in the business many years and he has seen the business grow. He looks forward to adding some employees this year. Equipment has changed radically, according to Randall, and the hi-tech equipment has decreased the need for as many men in the field. Randall serves on the State Board and has offices in Marion, Wabash and Muncie. In addition, he serves as Liaison to the Attorney General.
Kylee Joseph, Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care was also a speaker. Kylee addressed palliative care, symptom management for life-threatening diseases. Palliative Care is for persons with Cancer, Neurological illnesses, Cardiac/heart or lung diseases, renal failure, liver disease, diabetes and failure to thrive or the person may be seeking curative treatment. They may require specialized skills of a nurse or therapist. Kylee pointed out that it is appropriate to seek hospice care when the patient is no longer seeking curative treatment and comfort is the primary goal. Hospice is appropriate for those patients with a life expectancy of six months or less. Kylee said that hospice care may be provided in the patient's home or in a long-term care facility, an assisted-living facility or in Hospice Home, their inpatient facility. She told the members to feel free to contact Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care if they have questions (765.668.0885)

Gas City School Apartments
The Gas City Historical Society, a Chamber member, is nearing the completion of the Gas City School Apartments. The affordable housing project has nineteen apartments available for senior citizen. Eleven of the apartments are designated for low-income seniors. Two of the apartments are handicapped accessible with walk-in showers. The Historical Society ’s desire was to save a historical building for a very positive use.
In February 2003, Max Nottingham , then president of the Gas City Area Chamber of Commerce , wrote a supportive letter that appeared in the Chamber Notes stating the Chambers’ willingness to work with the Historical Society in helping to secure community and business funds to assist in the restoration project for costs not covered by grants. It was Max’s desire, the Chamber show support for the project as well as demonstrates how the Gas City Area community works together helping residents who are in need.
At present, the Historical Society ’s grant money has been depleted and they are using tax credit money. It is their desire to finish the gym area for community use. The Historical Society is asking for donations towards the completion of the Gas City School Apartments project. All donations are tax deductible and checks should be made payable to Gas City Historical Society , designated East School project. Donations are requested to be received not later than March 31, 2005 . All donors will have their name placed on a brass nameplate. The brass nameplate will be mounted onto a plaque. At the open house, the donor with the largest donation will assist at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The Historical Society expresses their thanks and appreciation for financial help with the project and their desire is that each Chamber member will be as proud of the completed project as they are.
Jerry Long, Historical Society President
