Director's Luncheon Report

The new President, Mark Sullivan, presided at the luncheon where seventy-three people enjoyed a great lunch, consisting of barbeque sandwiches, slaw, macaroni & cheese, banana bars and a cool drink on May 18th. Greg LeNeave, new owner of the Twin City Journal Reporter, was the primary speaker and traveled from Paducah, Kentucky to attend the luncheon. Greg LeNeave purchased not only the Journal-Reporter but also its sister papers, the Oak Hill Times and the Courier. Greg applauded the work of his "hometown staff" and assured us that the Journal will remain a "hometown paper". He mentioned that he loves to play golf and was quickly invited to bring a team to participate in the upcoming Annual Golf Outing. Thanks Grey for your presentation.

2005 Home & Business Showcase

October 15, 2005 at Mississinewa High School

Your showcase committee is hard at it once again committed to making this year's event bigger and better than last year. We want to keep everyone up to date on what is going on. In case you are not aware, our theme this year is Building Toward the Future. How appropriate is this theme considering the exciting announcements in the past few months about Wal-mart, Dollar General and much more. Our county is on the move in a positive direction. Each one of us must champion that cause. This is why being involved in the Showcase is a benefit to you and your business. You never know who will show up at the Showcase that might be the next big "sale" that explodes your business. Your support and involvement gives reassurance to your fellow businesses and to the community that you are alive and well, and poised to grow your business as well.

Marion General Hospital will be joining us again to hold a mini-health fair. Details of what they will be offering this year are still being planned. We would like to have as many other heath care providers (doctors, dentists, optometrists, etc) to join in and actually be a part of the health fair. Our plans are to incorporate the health fair and other related businesses into the gym area and actually be a part of the Showcase itself. We feel this will better utilize our space and create more traffic for all of us.

We will once again have a silent auction. We will make sure that everyone understands the rules of a silent auction as well. If you are person or a business who for one reason or another does not or will not have a booth, but would like to support the Showcase with a donation, you may do that with any of the committee members or directly with the Chamber office. Last year, this was very successful, but something we know we can grow bigger and better.

Throughout the next few months, you may receive a phone call from this committee as we promote and invite participation with personal contact. We know from past experience this helps the Showcase. Early-bird applications are now being accepted. You can pick up an application from the Chamber office, from this newsletter, from the website or from any committee member. We did raise the entry fee by $20 this year. We feel the need to continue to promote the Showcase to the general population by way of any media possible. This additional $20 times the 40 plus booths will provide us with some additional advertising dollars to do this promotion. This is first increase we have taken in some time, but needed as we continue to grow the Showcase.

Stay plugged in by attending the Chamber's monthly luncheons, by reading the newsletter and visiting other areas of our web site. Take advantage of the Chamber's online community calendar. Your input is valued and welcomed.

Your Showcase committee members are Mark D. Galenski, Chairman, 668-8851; Dennis Banks, 673-6460; Cheryl Baker, 674-7334; Herb Smith, 664-6239 and Jenny Jones, 664-2200.
